In the summer of 2007 Dutch designer Peter Zuiderwijk and I collaborated on a project. We initially visited the Globe Poster Company in Baltimore, Maryland and asked them how they designed their posters. At the same time that Peter was talking to Globe I was photographing the posters on the wall. We next compiled a research word list of the most popular words and phrases used on the Globe posters. The list was simplified and then given back to Globe to design our poster. We did not control the font choice, hierarchy or colors. The final result is an event poster made from no information. The poster informs and engages the viewer either positively or negatively depending on the poster location. The poster has been hung in East, West, North and South Baltimore as well as in New York and Europe with Mixed responses. One passerby questioned as we put a poster up, “The Price of Gold Going Up?” and then added, “Can You Get Me Some?”
